Movie Review: Raaz - The Mystery continues starring Emraan Hashmi, Kangna Ranaut, Adhyayan Suman

Hi everyone,

The latest movie out of the Bhatt camp, a horror movie directed by Mohit Suri and stars Emraan Hashmi, Kangna Ranaut and Adhyayan Suman. Expectations are high from this movie as it has excellent songs and had brilliant promos. Does it live up to the hype?

The story is about a painter Prithvi (Emraan Hashmi) who paints a picture of a woman dead, who happens to be Nandita (Kangna Ranaut). What happens is that Prithvi has visions and then paints them straight away and several times he saves Nandita. Once he paints the pictures he knows something wrong is going to happen to her. Her fiance Yash (Adhyayan Suman) is the presenter of a reality show, which shows that superstitions are wrong, hence he does not believe in the supernatural and expects Nandita to do the same. Raaz is all about the mystery as to why does Prithvi receive these visions? Why is Nandita linked to the supernatural events? Is Yash hiding something from one of his reportings?

Visually, every scene is perfect, there is thorough detail and you stay glued to the screen. Not a moment passes when you look around. The screenplay is very good and so is the story. The writers have made sure that believers and non-believers in supernatural events can watch this movie without any cringe-worthy moments.

The songs all stand out, especially Maahi, Suniyo and Kaise Ye Raaz Hai. All the songs go with the narrative and none of them are out of place. Each song reminds you of the story and you appreciate that as a viewer.

The director, Mohit Suri leaves a lasting impression and he is a fine director. To direct a horror film is definitely hard, as most horror flicks churned from Hindi Cinema tends to be laughable. However, Mohit handles it very well and keeps the audience interested in every scene and makes sure that each scene is significant. His direction shows that he allows the narrative of the story to play a huge part, with the characters being significant in playing a part in that process.

Now to the performances by the actors:
Emraan Hashmi - This guy impresses me after every new movie that he does. He allows his eyes to express most of the feelings as his character doesn't talk much. His body language is perfect and brings out the character. Also, he doesn't kiss in the movie, which is a new thing. An incredible performance and trust me, this guy has huge potential! I am a fan of his work now!
Kangna Ranaut - Not only is she beautiful but she can act. Her emotions just flow freely and allows the character to take over. Her eyes are used the most as she shows fear a lot of the time. When she is possessed, she does it perfectly. An excellent performance and she definitely has more to show us. I would like to see more of her on the screen! This lovely lady has a great amount of talent to show us.
Adhyayan Suman - An incredible performance by this relatively newcomer. He acts alongside Emraan and Kangna with great ease and matches up to their level of performances. I am totally impressed with this actor and I hope he goes far in the industry. At times, he is over-shadowed by his co-actors but that is nothing to worry about, as he is, I believe one-film old!
Jackie Shroff - who is in a special appearance and how much I do miss this actor! I hope he signs more films as he is an incredible actor and he shows it with this movie.

Overall, an excellent movie, a gripping story, excellent screenplay, songs that go with the narrative amazingly, great performances and a great movie directed by Mohit Suri. This movie has everything going for it and most of all it matches up to the expectations. it is definitely a movie worth watching! Go to the cinema and watch this! Hopefully it should do great business, a hit easily!

Rating: 4/5 - Excellent all-round!

Lots of Love,
Rahul N. Singh
